As we age, lines, wrinkles, and bagginess around the eyes can makes us look tired, stressed, and considerably older than we really are. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) at our Evans and Augusta, Georgia plastic surgery practice serving Aiken, South Carolina can eliminate puffiness and sagginess of the skin in both the upper and lower eyelid areas. In addition to rejuvenating your face and giving you a more youthful appearance, eyelid surgery may also improve vision impaired by excess skin in the upper eyelid region.
The eyes have been said to be the “window to the soul.” Certainly, they are the focus of visual contact. Often the eyelids are the first area to show signs of aging, which can take the form of hooding or excess skin in the upper lids or as bulges or bags in the lower lids, which result in a tired or unrested appearance. In some individuals, puffy lower eyelids are present at a very early age, often related more to genetic factors than the aging process. Eyelid surgery in Evans and Augusta, Georgia and for patients in the Aiken, South Carolina area can greatly improve these issues. Please contact Dr. Achih H. Chen for more information or to schedule a consultation at the Georgia Center.
The upper eyelid hooding caused by excess skin and fat is treated through an incision that will be hidden in a natural crease called the supratarsal crease. The extra skin and fat are removed, after which the incisions are closed. After healing has occurred, any residual scarring is very difficult to see.
In some individuals, the hooding of the upper eyelids, especially laterally, is exacerbated by low brows. In these patients, combining an upper eyelid blepharoplasty with a brow lift will give the best result, replacing the tired or angry appearance with a more refreshed look.
The puffiness in the lower eyelids can often be treated through incisions made on the inner eyelid, without the need for a skin incision. Significant excess lower lid skin can be treated through a skin incision hidden just underneath the eyelashes. Individuals who suffer from hollowing of the lower eyelids that occurs below the puffiness have what is called a “tear trough." In these cases, the fat responsible for the puffiness may be repositioned so that it drapes over the hollow region, filling and smoothing it. Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) can be performed at our Augusta and Evans, Georgia-area practice under local anesthesia or deep sedation.
Patients can expect some mild discomfort in the areas around the eyes after surgery. Makeup can be worn 24 hours after the sutures are removed in most cases. Most patients resume normal activities about seven days after treatment, and many return to light work activity in as little as one to two days after surgery.
For patients considering blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) at our Augusta and Evans, Georgia / Aiken, South Carolina-area practice, an even more complete aesthetic makeover can be produced by combining the procedure with other options, including JUVÉDERM™ facial rejuvenation, facial implants, and lip augmentation.
Dr. Achih H. Chen can significantly improve the appearance of the area around the eyes and make you look more youthful and vibrant with blepharoplasty in Evans and Augusta, Georgia (eyelid surgery).
