Laser Skin Resurfacing, Evans Georgia and Augusta

Laser Resurfacing Evans, Georgia---While lift procedures such as facelifts or necklifts or even mini-lifts improve the sags and bulges of jowls and excess skin, there is no more effective procedure in the improvement of facial fine lines, crepe-like skin around the eyes, coblestone-appearing skin, or hyperpigmentation (dark spots) than resurfacing. Laser skin resurfacing is designed to reduce the prominence of skin imperfections caused by aging, sun damage, and certain facial skin disorders. In the hands of a skilled surgeon like Dr. Chen, precisely applied laser energy can be harnessed to remove the damaged outer layers of skin, exposing the healthier layers beneath. This is an effective treatment for wrinkles, lines, facial scarring, freckles, and other skin conditions. Laser skin resurfacing treatment also stimulates the production of collagen fibers in the skin, which enhances the skin’s texture and elasticity. Additional collagen fibers tighten and tone the skin, making it appear healthier and more youthful. Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure

The laser skin resurfacing procedure at our Evans, Georgia practice is completed with sedation and local anesthetic. This ensures that the procedure is a comfortable experience for patients. Following anesthesia, Dr. Chen will treat the skin with a high-precision handheld laser unit. Treatment usually takes anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the extent and size of the area to be treated.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Recovery

After laser skin resurfacing, patients typically experience some mild tenderness and redness as the skin heals and regenerates. Depending on the extent of the treatment, make-up may be applied within 10 days of laser resurfacing. Some mild pinkness of the skin may persist for up to a few months, but can be concealed easily with makeup.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Compared to Other Laser Treatments

Laser Skin Resurfacing Evans Georgia--Recent advances in laser technology have resulted in an explosion in the types of laser treatments available. As a consequence, there has been, understandably, considerable confusion by patients. Despite the numerous types of lasers available for cosmetic facial skin treatments, the lasers used can be divided into two categories: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers, used for laser skin resurfacing, work by removing the top layer of the skin to allow a fresh layer of skin to regenerate. The result can often be dramatic with smoothing of the fine lines, resolution of the pigment irregularities and improvement of acne scarring. Ablative lasers include the gold-standard, CO2 and the next generation, Erbium.  Non-ablative lasers do not remove the top layer of the skin, instead working by “stimulating collagen formation”.  Consequently, there is little or no downtime; however, results are much less dramatic than with ablative lasers. Non-ablative lasers include the CoolTouch, SmoothBeam, Primos, N-Light, etc.  As the results of non-ablative lasers for cosmetic facial skin treatment are quite different from ablative lasers, it is important for patient satisfaction to be well informed about the expected treatment results. MORE ON NON-ABLATIVE LASERS.

As a cosmetic facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Chen preferentially uses the ablative lasers. The results are often quite dramatic with erasing of the fine lines, smoothing of the cobble-stone appearing skin and tightening of the crepe-like lower eyelid skin. These results are unmatched by non-ablative lasers. His treatment philosophy is that cosmetic facial laser treatments should leave the patient looking refreshed and un-operated, but not so subtle that results have to be deciphered by comparing before and after photographs.
